The confiscation of the estate during the French Revolution led to its public sale around 1790 as an &#8220;object of national heritage&#8221; to Mr Marheilhac, who at the time owned Ch\u00e2teau La Louvi\u00e8re in L\u00e9ognan. For the 1855 classification, it is Mr Mayne who owns the estate. The quality of Rieussec&#8217;s terroir earned it a place among the Sauternes and Barsac Premier Crus. Ch\u00e2teau Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. At that time, the estate covered 110 hectares, including 68 hectares of vines.
